About Katy

Author Katy Brown at a restaurant

Katy Brown is the author and illustrator of the Alphabet Animal Books series.  She lives in Staffordshire, UK with her husband, two children and a pet rabbit called Jack.

You might know her as Frances Rose, a pen name that she used to publish her first two books which went on to become Amazon best-sellers: The Queen’s Jubilee and The King’s Coronation - but ssh this is top secret information.  She thought of her undercover name by putting her children’s middle names together.

What would your secret name be?

Katy says,

"The book that made me fall in love with reading was Skellig by David Almond - I remember getting this book out of the school library when I was in Year 7 or 8 at school and being unable to put it down - this was the first time I devoured a book in one sitting. There have been many other unputdownable books ever since: War Horse, Charlotte’s Web, Peter Pan, Holes, The Secret Garden, I am Malala and Varjak’s Paw to name just a few. I love children’s books so much that I chose to study a Children’s Literature module as part of my undergraduate degree at the University of Cambridge.  Since becoming a Mom I have read the You Choose Books a million trillion times with my children - we love taking it in turns to pick something on every page - and this has been a huge inspiration for the books in the Alphabet Animal Books series."

Hobbies

Being in the company of my friends and family, going on walks and being outside in the sunshine, writing, drawing, reading, planting pretty flowers in my garden and going on holiday.

Colour

All of the happy colours - bright yellow, pink and blue.

Animals

My top 5 are: tiger, dolphin, elephant, giraffe and donkey.

Food

Not necessarily at the same time... Yorkshire Puddings, tofu in black bean sauce, Cadbury’s Marvelous Creations chocolate and every kind of cheese I can think of.

Ice-cream Flavour

I can't decide between wild cherry and strawberry  (but always with with sprinkles, sauce and a Flake in a waffle cone, of course.)
